For my particular situation, I have a test system with log files that get wiped and recreated daily with a new datestamp and some that just get new ones for that day.
I've set LogFusion to Watch those folders and it correctly opens the new files that appear, but does not close the old file that has been deleted. I thought I'd mentioned this previously, but couldn't find the discussion item - if I recall correctly, it was an aside on another topic, so thought it worthy of a new discussion of its own.
I find that I need 3 clicks to close the log file tab for the file that has been deleted: one right click to bring up the menu; one to select 'Close Log'; and finally to click "yes". When I return to LogFusion after it's been open for 3-4 days, that means 27-36 clicks for my 3 Watched Folders of this type and it gets a smidge annoying.
It would be nice to have a Watched Folder setting or two that enables it to automatically close log files that are no longer present in the folder. On further consideration more thing sprang to mind that I think would make the Watched folder facility inordinately powerful :
- Associate column settings with the Watched Folder configuration (I think that's already noted elsewhere)
- Close log file tab when file deleted
- Close log file tab if new tab for same folder opened and no new lines added to file for, eg, 24 hours
- Delete settings for log files associated with closed tabs: especially if all those settings are applied to newly opened files in that Folder
Alternatively - "Open new file in same, renamed, tab with same settings (highlights, columns, ...)"
Finally - as sometimes I accidentally close too many tabs - it would be good to select a Watched Folder from the settings and click "Scan for files now" to open up today's file(s).
Now I'm off to change my log file configuration to remove the datestamp from the file name making much of this moot - but didn't want to forget my suggestions in case everyone goes "yay" and the wizzes at BinaryFortress go "oh - that's easy ..."
Feel free to ask me what on Earth I'm thinking if I've not made myself clear.
Thanks,
Tim
